Sourced facts KOIHA 의료기관인증 (Korea Institute for Healthcare Accreditation) · Directory-verified via the Korea Consumer Agency registry (소비자24 / consumer.go.kr, sourcing 의료기관평가인증원/KOIHA data): entity '에이치플러스양지병원', 병원소재지 서울특별시 관악구 남부순환로 1636 (exact address match). 인증상태=인증 (Accredited), 인증제종류=급성기 (acute-care type), 교부번호=4-136, current validity 2024-09-02 to 2028-09-01 (4th accreditation cycle, matching the hospital's own history page: '2024 보건복지부 4주기 인증의료기관'). 허가병상수 (licensed beds) per this same registry entry = 289.

H+ Yangji Hospital (에이치플러스 양지병원) is a 289-licensed-bed general hospital (종합병원) in Seowon-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, owned by the nonprofit 의료법인 서울효천의료재단 (Seoul Hyocheon Medical Foundation, corporatized 2023). Its lineage traces to 1976 private clinics, formal opening as 'Yangji Hospital' in 1980, and general-hospital elevation in 2007. It is KOIHA-accredited (4th cycle, valid through 2028) and has been named to Newsweek's 'Korea's Best Hospitals' list multiple times (2019, 2023, 2025-2026; ranked #123 in the most recent Newsweek Korea list per this project's compiled ranking file). The hospital's clearest specialty signatures are gastroenterology/endoscopy (HIRA Grade-1 quality assessments in gastric and colorectal cancer care, an 'Excellent Endoscopy Center' certification) and a broad da Vinci robotic-surgery program spanning general surgery, bariatric surgery, urology, and gynecology — its own 비급여 (non-covered) fee-disclosure table lists more than a dozen distinct robotic-surgery line items, all under code QZ966 with A-D difficulty tiers. It also runs spine/joint, cardio-cerebrovascular, neuroscience, dialysis, pediatric, rehabilitation, and 24-hour emergency services, plus a dedicated Bloodless Medicine & Surgery Center and an International Healthcare Center for foreign patients. It does not appear to operate a dental department, an ophthalmology/LASIK service, or an obstetric delivery unit — none of those items appear anywhere in its official 비급여 disclosure table, and none of those specialties appear in its center/department navigation.

A hospital's stars run far lower than shops or restaurants — reviews are written amid illness, big bills and stress, and unhappy patients review the most. The average hospital scores just 2.85★ on Google, so This hospital's 3.3★ sits near the top of the range.

KOIHA 의료기관인증 (의료기관평가인증원), acute-care (급성기) type

Korea Institute for Healthcare Accreditation (KOIHA), delegated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare

Directory-verified (not just hospital-claimed) via 소비자24 (consumer.go.kr) official registry lookup, crtfcSn=CRTF_000000002762073: 인증상태=인증, 인증일자=2024.09.02~2028.09.01, 교부번호=4-136, 개설진료과목 (licensed departments per the registry) lists 20 departments including 내과·외과·흉부외과·정형외과·신경외과·성형외과·산부인과·이비인후과·비뇨의학과·재활의학과·응급의학과·영상의학과 etc. Prior cycles per the hospital's own history page: 2nd cycle 2016, 3rd cycle 2020/2023, 4th cycle 2024.

HIRA 적정성평가 (Care Quality Assessment) — Grade 1, multiple disease areas

Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service (건강보험심사평가원), a government quality-assessment program (hospital-claimed on its own GI-subsidiary site, not independently re-verified against HIRA's own portal in this pass)

Hospital's H+소화기병원 (GI Hospital) subdomain states: 위암(gastric cancer) 적정성평가 Grade 1 for 5 consecutive assessment rounds (as of 2021) plus 4 consecutive rounds 2016-2019; 대장암(colorectal cancer) 적정성평가 Grade 1 in 2024 (4th time) plus 3 consecutive rounds 2016-2018, with the claim 'only secondary-tier private general hospital in Seoul with 3 consecutive Grade-1 results in BOTH gastric and colorectal cancer assessment' (2016-2018). Separately, the hospital's own awards page states 10 consecutive Grade-1 results in the COPD (만성폐쇄성폐질환) 적정성평가. '우수내시경실' (Excellent Endoscopy Center) certification from the Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Research Foundation, awarded 4 consecutive times. Kept out of the accreditation badge (not independently cross-checked against HIRA's own assessment-results portal in this pass) but included here as a specific, checkable, hospital-disclosed claim tied to a real government program.

JCI (Joint Commission International)

Not applicable

No JCI claim found anywhere on the hospital's own site, its history page, or its awards page (all three otherwise log accreditation/certification events in detail) — JCI is not mentioned. Not included as a claim, and not directory-checked, since there is nothing to verify.

Traveling to Seoul, South Korea

Sourced Full South Korea guide →

South Korea crossed the 1-million mark as a medical-travel destination for the first time in 2024: about 1.17 million foreign patients were treated, up 93.2% from 610,000 in 2023 (Ministry of Health and Welfare / KHIDI). The largest patient groups came from Japan, China, the United States, Thailand and Taiwan, and the most-used specialties were dermatology, plastic surgery, internal/general medicine and health screening. Seoul concentrates most volume, drawing patients for aesthetic and dermatologic care, health check-ups, oncology and advanced surgery delivered in JCI-accredited hospitals with dedicated international-patient centers — at prices below the US while the government regulates and publishes standards through KHIDI's Medical Korea program.

Visa
Most Western nationalities (US, UK, EU/Schengen, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Japan) enter visa-free for short medical or tourist visits. The K-ETA (electronic travel authorization) requirement is temporarily WAIVED for 67 countries and territories through 31 December 2026 — eligible travellers enter without applying for a K-ETA; the requirement is expected to resume 1 January 2027. Confirm your nationality's current rule before travelling.
Medical / long-stay visa
For treatment, foreign patients typically use the C-3-3 medical tourism visa (short-term, stays up to 90 days, generally not extendable beyond 90 days except in special circumstances). For treatment or recovery longer than 90 days, patients change to or apply for the G-1-10 long-term medical treatment visa, which can be extended inside Korea; it requires hospital documentation (medical opinion, treatment schedule, payment records). Applications must be tied to a medical institution registered with KTO/KHIDI.
Arrival
From 1 January 2026, all foreign arrivals must file the mandatory digital e-Arrival Card online (within 3 days before arrival) — it replaces the paper disembarkation card and is a declaration, not a visa. Travellers who hold an approved K-ETA are exempt from the arrival card, but nationals of K-ETA-waived countries (US, UK, EU, Japan, etc.) must still complete the e-Arrival Card.
Currency
South Korean Won (KRW, ₩)
Languages
Korean; English widely spoken in international-patient centers at major hospitals, with interpreter services in multiple languages
Safety & recourse
Very safe for visitors · Established malpractice recourse

General guidance — confirm current rules for your nationality with official sources. Verified against: Korea Immigration — K-ETA temporary exemption extended to 31 Dec 2026 (MOFA/KPMG GMS alert) · Korea e-Arrival Card mandatory from 1 Jan 2026 · Medical Korea — medical visa (C-3-3 / G-1-10), KHIDI · MOHW — Korea attracts 1.17 million foreign patients in 2024.
