#20 in South — World's Best Hospitals 2026 from $21 3.6★ KOIHA (의료기관인증, 의료기관평가인증원)

Every price shows its source and verification; Price data last updated .

Sourced facts KOIHA (의료기관인증, 의료기관평가인증원) · Directory-verified via the Korea Consumer Agency's public certification registry (소비자24, consumer.go.kr) under the exact registered name '강동경희대학교의대병원' at 서울특별시 강동구 동남로 892 (matching this hospital's address). Status: 인증 (certified), 인증제종류: 급성기 (acute-care hospital cycle), valid 2023.08.03–2027.08.02 — current as of this pass (2026-07-14).

Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong opened June 12, 2006 (originally as 경희대 동서신의학병원, 'Kyung Hee East-West Neo Medical Center') in Gangdong-gu, Seoul — the university's second teaching hospital, distinct from the original Kyung Hee University Medical Center (경희의료원) in Dongdaemun-gu. It uniquely co-locates three affiliated university hospitals — Medical, Dental, and Korean (Oriental) Medicine — on one campus, and is KOIHA-accredited (급성기, valid through 2027) with 661 licensed beds per that same registry record. The hospital markets a broader in-house 'capacity of 800 hospital beds' on its own English site (a total-capacity figure, not the licensed-bed count) and Korean Wikipedia separately cites 698 beds; the three figures are not reconciled here, and the KOIHA-registry figure (661) is used as the primary sourced number for being the most specific, dated, third-party-verifiable of the three. It is a general hospital (종합병원) offering robot-assisted (da Vinci) surgery across general surgery, urology, and gynecology, and its own site cites a national #1 ranking in the Ministry of Health & Welfare's patient-experience assessment and a 1st-grade rating in the cancer-treatment adequacy assessment.

Verified against: Hospital's own 비급여 진료비용 disclosure page (address, department structure, instNo tabs for Medical/Dental/Korean-Medicine hospitals) · Hospital's own history/timeline page (연혁) — founding date 2006.06.12 as 경희대 동서신의학병원, ward-opening log · Hospital's own directions page (오시는 길) — confirmed address 892 Dongnam-ro, Gangdong-gu · Hospital's own English-language KUIMS overview page — '800 hospital beds' capacity claim, awards, three-college teaching-hospital structure · Hospital's own English-language Medical Institution Evaluation/Awards page — MOHW/HIRA quality-assessment grades · 소비자24 (Korea Consumer Agency, consumer.go.kr) — 의료기관인증 (KOIHA) public registry record for '강동경희대학교의대병원': certification status, validity dates, licensed bed count, address, licensed department list · 한국어 위키백과 (Korean Wikipedia) — 강동경희대학교병원: founding date, 698-bed figure (corroboration only, not primary), tertiary/secondary designation · rankings.newsweek.com · google.com

Traveling to Seoul, South Korea

Sourced Full South Korea guide →

South Korea crossed the 1-million mark as a medical-travel destination for the first time in 2024: about 1.17 million foreign patients were treated, up 93.2% from 610,000 in 2023 (Ministry of Health and Welfare / KHIDI). The largest patient groups came from Japan, China, the United States, Thailand and Taiwan, and the most-used specialties were dermatology, plastic surgery, internal/general medicine and health screening. Seoul concentrates most volume, drawing patients for aesthetic and dermatologic care, health check-ups, oncology and advanced surgery delivered in JCI-accredited hospitals with dedicated international-patient centers — at prices below the US while the government regulates and publishes standards through KHIDI's Medical Korea program.

Visa
Most Western nationalities (US, UK, EU/Schengen, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Japan) enter visa-free for short medical or tourist visits. The K-ETA (electronic travel authorization) requirement is temporarily WAIVED for 67 countries and territories through 31 December 2026 — eligible travellers enter without applying for a K-ETA; the requirement is expected to resume 1 January 2027. Confirm your nationality's current rule before travelling.
Medical / long-stay visa
For treatment, foreign patients typically use the C-3-3 medical tourism visa (short-term, stays up to 90 days, generally not extendable beyond 90 days except in special circumstances). For treatment or recovery longer than 90 days, patients change to or apply for the G-1-10 long-term medical treatment visa, which can be extended inside Korea; it requires hospital documentation (medical opinion, treatment schedule, payment records). Applications must be tied to a medical institution registered with KTO/KHIDI.
Arrival
From 1 January 2026, all foreign arrivals must file the mandatory digital e-Arrival Card online (within 3 days before arrival) — it replaces the paper disembarkation card and is a declaration, not a visa. Travellers who hold an approved K-ETA are exempt from the arrival card, but nationals of K-ETA-waived countries (US, UK, EU, Japan, etc.) must still complete the e-Arrival Card.
Currency
South Korean Won (KRW, ₩)
Languages
Korean; English widely spoken in international-patient centers at major hospitals, with interpreter services in multiple languages
Safety & recourse
