Opened February 1987 as a 419-bed teaching hospital of Gyeongsang National University's College of Medicine, it has grown into Gyeongnam province's first and largest tertiary hospital, with 899 licensed beds as of its current KOIHA accreditation record (836 beds per the hospital's own 2025-12-31 statistics page, reflecting a subsequent count).
