The care pathway

Choosing between the options
Modeled previewWhat actually decides between the treatments above — and the checklist an expert would put to the specialist.
Decision factors
- 1How advanced the condition is — stage or severity narrows the menu first
- 2Your goal: cure, control, symptom relief or appearance
- 3Downtime you can afford — the options below differ by weeks
- 4Total cost with travel and follow-up, not just the sticker price
- 5Your overall health and fitness for anesthesia
Ask the specialist
- 1How many of this exact procedure did you perform last year?
- 2What is your complication and revision rate for it?
- 3What anesthesia will be used, and who administers it?
- 4Who manages my aftercare once I fly home, and how?
- 5What exactly is included in the quoted price — and what isn't?
A planning frame — suitability is always the specialist's call.
Taiwan for medical travel — safety, recourse & visa
Sourced Full Taiwan guide →What matters if it goes wrong, and what it takes to get there — country-level, verifiable guidance in one place.
- Visa
- Tiered visa-free entry by nationality (Bureau of Consular Affairs, BOCA): 90 days for ~57 countries (most of the EU, US, UK, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Israel and others); 30 days for Malaysia, Singapore and several Caribbean/Central American states; 14 days for Oman; a running trial 14-day visa-free scheme for Thailand, Brunei and the Philippines (through 2027-07-31). All other nationalities require a visa. British and Canadian nationals can extend their 90-day visa-free stay by a further 90 days (max 180 days total). Confirm your nationality's current rule before travelling.
- Medical / long-stay visa
- Taiwan has a DEDICATED short-term medical-treatment stay-visa ('外籍人士來台短期就醫申請停留簽證', BOCA's foreign-nationals stay-visa category #13), distinct from tourism/business visas — a materially stronger, more explicit medical-visa regime than Turkey's (which has none). Eligibility is gated on two conditions: the treated condition must be on MOHW's published list of diseases eligible for foreign/PRC-resident treatment in Taiwan, and treatment must be at one of MOHW's published 'International Medical Service Internationalization' member institutions (mostly in Taipei). Requirements: proof of funds or a payment agreement with the Taiwan institution, a diagnosis certificate from a foreign hospital, a treatment plan from the Taiwan institution, and a round-trip ticket. Up to 2 accompanying persons are allowed (spouse/relative within the 3rd degree, or 2 home-country medical staff); emergency medical visas can be filed directly by the Taiwan medical institution with BOCA.
